Preston Edward Hare

Preston Edward Hare, 90, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late James D. Hare and Mary Gaston Brockwell Hare. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Grace Lillian Hare; and best friend, Charlie Fenderson. Mr. Hare was a graduate of Virginia Tech University Class of 1951 and a Veteran of the United Sates Navy. He was employed with the Commonwealth of Virginia retiring after many years of service. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Hare and Donna Perkinson (Jay); grandchildren, Joseph “Buck” Perkinson (Heather) and Craig Perkinson (Kelly); great-grandson, Preston T. Perkinson; nephew, Robert Hare (Barbara); his beloved dog, Penny; and Rachel Whitehurst, who was like a daughter to him. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society.
