Preston Scott Millner passed away Friday, Jan.22, 2016 at his residence in Waverly, Va. Preston originally made his home in Gretna, Va. His beloved wife, Sarah, and his furry companion, Riley, were as always by his side. Preston had fought a long and very brave battle with cancer, always going forward with humor and hope.
He was born on Oct. 22, 1987 in Roanoke, Va., coming into this world with his twin brother, Justin. He graduated from Gretna High School in 2006 and immediately followed his lifelong dream of joining the Army. He served 4 years in the 101st Airborne Div. Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he excelled in marksmanship. He served 15 months overseas in the Iraqi War and was greatly honored to serve his country. He returned home and got a job at the Norfolk Shipyard before finding out that he was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma. From that day on his life consisted of Doctors, surgeries and lots of chemo, but never complained.
Preston was a warrior on the battlefield and in his personal life. He was fearless and met each day with hope and a sunny smile. His faith in God never wavered over his short life. As a youth he went on the mission field to help those in need many times always willing to do more. His smile was contagious and that lead him to marry the love of his life, Sarah, in 2014.
