Ralph Montel Hawkins "Monty" Jr.

Ralph Montel “Monty” Hawkins, Jr. passed away on August 2, 2014. He was born on September 3, 1941 in Petersburg, Virginia. He grew up in Ettrick and graduated from Petersburg High where he was a football standout. He graduated from East Carolina University. He worked in the insurance industry as an insurance adjustor for many years and started his own insurance adjusting company more than 20 years ago. Monty was a member of the ECU Pirate Alumni Association. He was also. a former member of the Ettrick Volunteer Fire Department and the Chester Civitans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Gerlene Hawkins. He is survived by his spouse, Ruth Sprouse Hawkins, his son, Chris (Michelle) Hawkins; his grandchildren, Lauren and Berkley Hawkins; and, his great grandson Hayden Kitts. He is also survived by his three step children, Connie (Ray) Sorrell, Richard (Melanie) Sprouse, and Pam (Kirk) Thomason and his three step grandchildren, Ian Sprouse, Clair Thomason and Luke Thomason.
The family will receive friends at the visitation Wednesday August 6, from 6-8 p. m at J. T. Morriss Funeral Home, 103 South Adams Street, Petersburg, VA. Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday August 7, at 11:00 a. m. with interment immediately following the service at Blandford Cemetery.
