Ralph H. Lewis, 85, of Chester, VA, died Wednesday, August 24, 2005. He was born in Rineyville, KY, May 7, 1920. He is survived by his wife Thursa O. Lewis; a son Dr. David Lewis and wife Paige; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and one brother Dr. David T. Lewis and wife Leslie of Elizabethtown, KY. He served in the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, VA, from 1943 to 1945. He earned a Master of Arts degree from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY, in 1946. Mr. Lewis taught Industrial Arts and Media in Fairfax VA County Schools from 1946 to 1968. He worked as Assistant Supervisor and later Supervisor of Audio Visual Services in the State Dept. of Education, Richmond, VA from 1968 until retirement in 1982. He participated in many organizations and he became President of the Virginia Education Media Association during this period. He was active in the local and regional AARP, serving in various affairs, and later as President. He was active in the Chesterfield Senior Volunteer Hall of Fame and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2002. He attended many Elderhostels and enjoyed his hobbies of gardening, woodworking, and reading. He was a member of Chester Baptist Church and the Crump Bible Class. The family will receive friends at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Thursday, August 25th from 7 to 8:30 PM. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Edward Stansfield officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Springfield, KY.
