Randolph Carroll Smith, 71, of Chesterfield, passed away peacefully in his home the morning of Saturday, September 17th. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 40 years, Sheila Mitchell Smith; and his parents, Eugene C. and Mary Avis Brown Smith. He was a loving husband of forty years, father, and friend to many people to include whomever was willing to listen to his wonderful yet endless stories. He had a passion for restoring Wheel Horse tractors back to immaculate condition, working on home improvements, fixing anything broken or not, finding humor in life, and most important to him were his sweets, especially plain M&M’s and Kraft caramels. In his younger years, he spent much of his time at the New London drag strip racing cars. After graduating Appomattox High School in 1863 (the date according to him) he attended Virginia Tech and following college worked in the automotive industry until retirement. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Appomattox, a longtime member of the Wheel Horse Tractor Club, and an active member of e-Bay enjoying his “wins” of various tractor parts. He and his wife, Sheila were world travelers, but his all-time favorite memory was his trip to Peoria, IL to finally see the Caterpillar Plant. God joined he and Sheila in the beginning of their journey and now forever more. He is survived by two daughters, Debbie Graham and husband, Ormond, and Sheri Smith and spouse, Lisa Shumate; sister, Vicki Canada and husband, Johnny; and numerous extended family and friends. A funeral service will be held at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Linen-Powell Library, VCU Massey Cancer Center, P.O. Box 980214, Richmond, VA 23284. Condolences can be registered at
