Raymond Averret Adkins, 78, of Dinwiddie, passed away on September 23, 2014. Born in Mecklenburg, VA, he was the son of the late Charlie Lee and Novella Lawrence Adkins; and was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara P. Adkins; and three brothers, Percy, Jack and Cecil Adkins. Mr. Adkins was retired from Honeywell as a machinist after 37 years of service, and he was also a lifetime member of the Dinwiddie Moose Lodge. Mr. Adkins is survived by his four sons, Ronald Averret Adkins and wife, Sherry, Calvin Wright Adkins, Sr. and wife, Michelle, Michael Eugene Adkins and wife, Barbara, and Brian Keith Adkins and wife, Angie; nine grandchildren, Nathan Adkins, Lauren Collier, Kaitlyn Adkins, Calvin Adkins, Jr., Steven Adkins, Christopher Adkins, Thomas Adkins, Kristin and LeAnn Adkins; one sister, Eleanor Baird and husband, Jerome; and numerous nieces, nephews, half brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Western Heights Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2014 in Western Heights Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jonathan Dundalow, officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home.
