Raymond Hansford Conner, Jr.

Raymond Hansford Conner, Jr. (Sonny), 75, of Disputanta, VA, died June 1, 2023. Born and raised in Hopewell, VA, he was the son of the late, Raymond H. and Elizabeth Conner, Sr. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Raymond was a proud Vietnam Veteran (67-69) in the United States Army, 101st Airborne. He retired from Honeywell after 33 years of dedicated service. Raymond had a lifelong love of music, he loved to play his guitar for his family. He was a member of The Chapmans Gospel Band for many years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Conner was preceded in death by a sister, Doris McNew; and three brothers, Michael, Charles, and David Conner. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bertha R. Conner, of Disputanta; daughter, Yolonda Smith (Steven), of Prince George; daughter, Brenda Balbaugh, of Disputanta; grandsons, Trevor Smith and Timothy Smith, of Prince George; the apple of his eye, his granddaughter, Clara Conner, of Disputanta; sister, Elsie Ward, of Hopewell; sister, Nancy Benson, of McKenney; a brother, John Conner (Penny), of Prince George; as well as many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Duane Guridy, Pastor of Monumental Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Bermuda Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 9, 2023, at the funeral home.
