E.Raymond E. Griffith, Sr., 77, of Hopewell, Virginia, died Saturday, June 9, 2007, at John Randolph Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with lung and heart disease.
Born June 24, 1929, in Hopewell, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Griffith. A member of VFW Post #637, Mr. Griffith was a Korean War veteran who served his country with pride and bravery in the 115th Medical Battalion Ambulance Company, receiving three Bronze Stars. He retired from Hercules after 29 ½ years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia A. Griffith; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond, Jr. and Carol P. Griffith of Chester; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie G. and Tony Ashmore of Carson; and two grandchildren, Lori A. Ashmore of Alexandria, VA and Joseph M. Ashmore of Carson, VA.
Mr. Griffith was a loving and devoted husband, daddy and granddaddy who loved his family more than life itself. His dedication to his family was the number one reason why he was able to fight his health battles for so long.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 11, 2007 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Phil Andrews, associate pastor of Woodlawn Baptist Church, officiating.
