Rebekah Jane Robinson

Rebekah "Becky" Robinson (nee Thompson), 91, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2023, at Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, VA.
Her parents, Fred Doenges Thompson and Issie Gresham Thompson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Steve, who lives in Elkton, VA and Craig, who resides in San Diego, CA; daughter-in-law, Mary, who lives in Elkton, VA; four grandchildren, Trenton, Garrett, Stuart, and Caitlin; three daughters-in-law, Susan, Shana, and Alison; one son-in-law, Samuel; and one great-grandchild, Sophia.
Becky was born in 1932 in Midlothian, VA. When her father was appointed principal of Chester High School, now Thomas Dale High School, she moved to Chester, VA, where she resided for most of her life. She received a Bachelor's degree in economics with minors in sociology and psychology from Duke University. Becky was involved with children very early in her life. She began working with young people in her late teens and early twenties as a camp counselor, then as a young mother she taught Sunday school and pre-school at several churches. When Chesterfield County introduced kindergarten into the school system in 1968, she began her career as a kindergarten teacher at Crestwood Elementary School where she remained for 29 years. During her accomplished career, she conducted teacher workshops, revised curriculums, mentored student teachers, and served on many countywide committees. However, her talent and passion was for the classroom where she did her very best every day to provide an environment where it was exciting to learn, in the process helping over 650 students get off to a good start toward lifelong learning.
Her sons remember Becky as a dedicated, patient, and witty mother with a bit of a "potty" mouth.
A private graveside service and burial was held at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Chester, VA.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Sunnyside Retirement Community for their efforts and care provided to Becky.
