Col. Reed S. Vaughan, Jr., 84, of Midlothian, VA passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dora and Reed S. Vaughan, Sr.; wife, Joyce E. Vaughan; brothers, Roger and Michael Vaughan. He is survived by his children, Cheryl McNamara (George); Teresa Eyler (John); Gerald Vaughan (Monica); six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Temple (Jerry); sister, Shirley Lewis; brothers, George Vaughan (Carol) and Douglas Vaughan (Mary); four stepchildren, John Dobrick (Tina); Thomas Dobrick; David Dobrick and Kathy D. Moore; eleven step grandchildren. Col. Vaughan owned and operated Vaughan’s Insurance Agency for over 35 years. He joined the Civil Air Patrol in 1953 and served four terms retiring as Wing Commander in 2001. He learned to fly at sixteen and held a private license with single and multi engine ratings. A mission pilot for CAP he logged over 2,000 hours flying time. His many CAP awards include four Meritorious Service Awards, three Exceptional Service Awards and one Distinguished Service Award. The USAF rated the Virginia Wing in the top seven wings nationwide in overall performance. Col. Vaughan gave all the credit to his dedicated staff for excellence and professionalism, and the 34 squadrons, their members and Group Commanders together made this possible. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. Hundred Rd., Chester, VA 23831. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2015 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park where the CAP Honor Guard will provide honors.
