Richard Lee Bailey

Richard Lee Bailey, 83, of Dinwiddie, VA, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, April 30, 2018. Richard was raised in Petersburg, VA and lived in the Tri-Cities area his entire life. The son of the late Richard Claybourne Bailey and Alice Bailey. He was also preceded in death by daughters, Terrie Gilmore and Lori Bailey; siblings, Gertrude Steward, Emma Virostek, George Bailey, Jimmy Bailey, and Robert Bailey; granddaughter, Shaya Bailey. Richard was a building contractor for over 60 years. He built hundreds of residential and commercial buildings in the Tri-Cities area during his career. Richard was proud of those years and often shared fond memories of those he had the pleasure of working with. Richard retired in 2007 to enjoy his remaining years. Richard was a devoted Christian. He enjoyed singing praise music and serving his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Richard is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sissy Bailey. They were together for over 40 years. Also surviving are his sons, Claiborne Lee Bailey (Melanie) and Kenneth Droddy (Diane); daughters, Julie Stamper (Bob) and Shelly Martin (Darrel), 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Richard would want to give special recognition to granddaughters, Alicen Rodolph (Luke) of Fayetteville, NC, Nicki Stephenson of Dinwiddie, VA, and Myah Bailey of Spokane, WA; grandsons, Thomas Minneti, K. Wayne Droddy, Jr., and great-grandson, Colton Stephenson, all of Dinwiddie, VA, and his mother-in-law, Estelle H. Wilkins also of Dinwiddie, VA. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S.
