Richard Neal “Possum” Barnes, 60, of Chesterfield, VA, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 8, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Joe and Lucy Strum Barnes, and a nephew, Sean C. Maitland. Possum retired from The HON Company after 30 years of employment. He was an avid NASCAR fan and Jeff Gordon was his favorite driver. He loved riding in the ’57 Chevy that belonged to his father and was especially fond of his cat, Buttons. He is survived by his son, Jason Neal Barnes and his mother, Deborah Barnes; sister, Barbara B. “Pookie” Faulkner (David); aunt, Mentha Bell Lewis; uncle, Clifford “Tommy” Barnes (Marie), as well as numerous cousins, other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
