On Wednesday, August 31, 2011, with family by his side, after a sudden onset and brief battle with aggressive cancer, Richard Walter Bendall, 83, retired minister and President of World Health Services, Inc., gentle husband, father, brother and friend went to sleep awaiting His Lordâ??s return.
Born in Blackstone, Virginia on August 10, 1928 to Joseph and Virginia Bendall, one of 13 children, Richard spent his life serving his Lord in many capacities from teaching to high level administration within the Seventh-Day Adventist Church organization. Even in his retirement years, he was extremely active and founded and tirelessly led World Health Services, Inc. a non-profit medical mission organization. He traveled throughout the world serving others and showing a true example of his best friend Jesusâ?? love. This beloved man is survived by Peggy Bendall, his wife of 58 years; son, Doug and wife, Beth; daughter, Barbie Simons and husband, Torrence, daughter, Bev Crain and husband, Don; brothers, Joseph M. Bendall, Jr., Henry Bendall, and Lee S. Bendall; sisters, Mildred Koliadko, Marie Bendall, Leena Wood and Ruth Ann Imbraguglio; grandchildren, Brittany Crain, Courtney Crain, Mason Bendall, Jack Bendall, Brad Davis, Rob Davis, Brandon Simons and Justin Simons; great-grandchildren, Abigail Simons and Madison Simons. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph M. Bendall, Sr., mother, Frieda Virginia Bendall and brother, Alfred C. Bendall. Services for Richard will be held Sunday, September 4, 2011, at the Petersburg Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 1:30 pm, with the Wakefield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, officiating. Interment will follow immediately at the Bendall Family Cemetery located in Disputanta.
