Richard Leotas Calhoun, 82, of Chester, VA, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020. Born on September 19, 1938 in Bonham, TX, he was son of the late Maurice Leotas Calhoun and Lillie Mae Calhoun. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Barbara Jones, Jerry Calhoun, Marcell Calhoun, Gwen King and Carl Calhoun. Richard retired from the USARMY in 1976 after serving for his country for a 20-year career. During his time in the Army, he served several tours of duty in the Republic of South Korea where he met and married his wife, Yon. Following his career in the USARMY, Richard earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Business from Bishop College in Dallas, TX. He spent most of his career as a Manager for the Army & Air Force Exchange Services for 18 years. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, doing cross-word puzzles, collecting coins, and gardening in his yard. Richard was a significant donor to various charities and non-profit organizations, in total of 65 charities. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Yon Calhoun; his two children, Isaac Calhoun (Debra), and Lauren Kim (Andrew); five grandchildren, Cyrus Calhoun, Akaylah Calhoun, Daemon Calhoun, Allison Kim, and Anderson Kim; and his siblings, Ernest Calhoun (Gwen), Maryland Densey, Esther Phillips (CJ), Eddie M. Calhoun, Shirley Simms (Delbert), and Helen Barnes. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Visitation for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will take place on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Rd, Amelia Court House, VA 23002. Condolences may be registered at
