Richard Elton Gray

April 4, 1933 — November 22, 2017

Richard Elton Gray, 84, of Hopewell, VA., passed away, Wednesday, November 22, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carlton H. and Mary L. St. Clair Gray; brother, Calvin Gray. Richard was a United States Navy Veteran and retired after 34 years from Allied Chemical; he loved farming in the mountains and gardening in his hometown of Stewartsville, VA., he was a member of the First Christian Church in Hopewell. He is survived by his sons, Richard “Shawn” Gray and Keith Fitzgerald; daughters, Rhonda Fitzgerald and Sandi Gray Sharp (Glenn); grandchildren, Jeremy Ryan, Sarah Sharp, Lexie Fitzgerald, Emma Gray and Richard “Chase” Gray; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Gray (Lois) and Wayne Gray (Trisha); sister-in-law, Paulette Gray; companion, Ruthie Richardson and numerous extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017 at J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home of Hopewell with Reverend Joyce Harville and Pastor William Odom officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VCU Massey Cancer Center P.O. Box 843042, Richmond, VA 23284.
