Richard L. “Dick” Haden, 73, of Disputanta, VA, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018,
contently and peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his
parents, H.C. “Junior” Haden and Dotha House Haden; his sister, Shirley Haden King and
brother-in-law, Earl King. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Mary Carpenter
Haden; his son, Richard L. “Lin” Haden, Jr. and wife, Angela Curry Haden; and his daughter,
Rosemary Haden Britt and husband, Matt Britt. He was Papa to Trey and Brent Haden and
Matthew Britt. He is also survived by his niece, Debra King Edmondson and husband, Steve
Edmondson; and his mother-in-law, Rosalia Carpenter. Dick also shared a special bond with his
brother-in-law Wayne Carpenter and his family. Dick retired from Hercules/Aqualon after 35
years of service, and he served with the US Army Reserves for 21 years in the 80th Division
Army Band. Dick was also a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Parish, serving as council
president and lay leader. Dick was a dedicated member of SCV, APHill #167, where he served
as treasurer and bugler for special events. In addition, he participated in Buglers Across
America, playing at many local events. He was an active member of the Disputanta Ruritan
Club and the Prince George Heritage Center. Dick was also an active member of Ducks
Unlimited and received state recognition from this organization. In his teens and through
adulthood, Dick played the trumpet and sang with various local and regional bands. The family
will receive friends on August 22 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Petersburg, and a memorial service will be held following the visitation at 6:00 p.m..
