Richard James Johnstone, 73, of Myrtle Beach, SC., died Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Rich was born in Stockton, CA. He was retired from the Army where he served for over 22 years. He received many commendations while in the service to include the Bronze Star. He was married for 35 years to Hai T. Johnstone till her passing in 2004. Being in the Army he has lived in many locations, but finally settled down in Hopewell, VA in 1979. Rich lived in this area for 36 years till he ended up retiring to Myrtle Beach in 2005. He was an avid bowler and there were not too many times that you couldn’t find him at the bowling center with his friends. He also enjoyed cruising and was able to take several of them before his passing. He is survived by his son, John Johnstone, daughter, Kathy Kennedy and his granddaughter, Sydney Johnstone. He is also survived by a large extended family and his bowling family. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Followed by a memorial service will be conducted at 12 p.m. grave side at Sunset Memorial Park 2901 W. Hundred Road Chester, VA 23831.
