Richard Andrew Rudy

February 3, 1964 — January 11, 2019

Richard Andrew "Andy” Rudy, of Chester, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 11, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver D. "Skitch" Rudy and Margaret Hesse "Jill" Rudy; aunts, Betsy Hesse Monroe, Rosemary Rudy Kilhoffer; and uncle, Dick Monroe. He leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life, Alexis Felts Rudy; sister, Lynn Rudy Garner and husband Gary; nieces, Katie Gardner and husband Andy, Elizabeth Whorley and husband Brent; great niece and nephews, Grant and Garrett Gardner, Eli and Ella Whorley; uncles, John Hesse and wife Katja, Jerry Rudy and wife Julia, Carl Kilhoffer; sister-in-law, Claudia Hawkins and husband Stan; nephew, Adam Boyer; cousins, Sarah Linck, Jamison Reed, Kathleen Blizzard, Kathleen Hesse, Ashley Wilson, Matt Marthinson, Dawson Kilhoffer, Tim Wilson and their families; and good friends Rick Davis and Summer Rush. Andy was loved by many people and was known for his quick wit and sense of humor, qualities he never lost even on the darkest days of his illness. In addition he was so thankful to all who helped him that it was not uncommon for the medical staff to tell him, "You are my favorite patient." Andy was an avid photographer. He loved photographing nature scenes and sporting events. He grew up watching the Redskins with his family and remained a Redskin fan his entire life. He inherited his father's musical talent and thus had a love of music and a beautiful tenor voice. He spent many happy mornings assisting his father, the late "Skitch" Rudy with the Chester Presbyterian Children's Choir. A true dog lover, Andy will be greeted in heaven by many wagging tails. He will leave behind his and Alexis's deeply loved rescue dogs, Niko and Sally. Many were touched by Andy's special spirit and he will be missed more than words can express. A celebration of Andy's life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 17, 2019 at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Chester Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment Sunset Memorial Park. Flowers are welcomed or contributions may be made to the Oliver D. Rudy Building at Chester Presbyterian Church, 3424 W. Hundred Rd., Chester, VA 23831 or B.A.R.K.
