Richard Marvin Whorley, 77, of Prince George, VA, died Sunday, July 17, 2016. Born to the late Frank Peter and Estelle Williams Whorley, he was raised in the Battersea neighborhood of Petersburg. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Retha Whorley; daughter, Rebecca J. Whorley; and brothers, Carlton David Whorley and Melvin Ray Whorley. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Whorley was a former employee of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company and later worked at the Colonial Heights Walmart for many years. He was an avid fisherman, having received several citations in his lifetime, and a devoted fan of NASCAR. He is survived by his sisters, Marjorie Whorley Walker, Grace Whorley Wilson (Jerry) who were very devoted, and Nancy Whorley Wright; special nieces, Julie Wilson Williams, Joy Wilson Ramey, and Melissa Walker Durham, Crystal Mohn, Patience Barkman, Brandy Reese; nephew, Christopher Ray Whorley; great-nieces, Kensleigh Elizabeth Ramey, Caroline Grace Ramey, and Anna Mackinsey Durham, Destiney Jarrett, Dylan Jarrett, Kennedy Barkman, Raelynn Barkman, Autumn Whorley, Elianna Whorley; great-nephew, Reese; sister-in-law, Debra B. Whorley, as well as numerous other relatives. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
