Richie C. Gwaltney, 78, of Dinwiddie County, passed away on October 23, 2011. He was the son of the late Richie Carlton and Bettie Amos Gwaltney, and was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Strange Gwaltney. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and enjoyed working in his yard. Mr. Gwaltney retired from Life of Virginia Insurance Company after 30 years of service, and also retired from the Namozine Fire Department at 25 years. He was a member of both West End Baptist Church, and the Gerow Ruritan Club in Dinwiddie. Mr. Gwaltney is survived by two daughters, Donna G. Rice and husband Clifford of Dinwiddie, Diane G. Ange and husband Lyman, Jr. of Chester; grandchildren, Stephen and Richard Rice of Dinwiddie, Amber and Alexis Ange of Chester; five sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Gwaltney of Colonial Heights, Edna Gwaltney of Haines City FL., Martha Strange of Chester, Doris Barnes of Virginia Beach; brother â??in-law and sister-in-law, Roy and Ernestine Harris of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wallace Gwaltney and Rev. Rodney Jenkins officiating. Entombment to follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA.
