Robert Lee Couch, 67, of Colonial Heights, died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at McGuireâ??s VA Medical Center. He was a native of New Mexico and son of the late Lloyd G. and Helen Irene Harrison Couch. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and then joined the U.S. Army where he retired of 18 years of service for a total of 22 years of dedicated service to his country. Serving in Korea he worked with the children in the orphanage. He loved going to yard sales and was a brilliant Chess player and at one point was a grandmaster of Chess, he loved woodworking, his children, an avid reader and fabulous grandfather. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Kinard and husband, Ken of Austin, TX, Anna Couch of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Amanda Kinard of Austin, TX; grandson, Anthony Kinard; great-granddaughter, Akira Kinard; and his beloved of 22 years, Diana Helsel of Colonial Heights. Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, VA with military honors with the Pastor Steve Failker officiating.
