Robert "Eddie" Cross, Jr. departed this life peacefully to go home to the Lord on Sunday, March 10, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Joan Cross; his mother, Nancy Cross; his step-mother, Jackie Cross; his mother-in-law, Eunice Shumaker; his daughters, Jennifer Gobble and her husband, Shawn, and Amanda McAulay and her husband, Ryan; his step-daughter Megan Johnson and her husband, Keith; his step-son Dustin Shifflett and his wife, Kristy; and nine grandchildren: Preston Cross, Emma McAulay, Aiden McAulay, Brooklyn McAulay, Hailey Johnson, Isabella Johnson, Casek Shifflett, Ella Grace Shifflett, and Nixon Shifflett.
Eddie worked as a devoted employee for the Richmond Times-Dispatch for 28 years. His last employment was with Haley Ford in Chester, Virginia. Eddie was a loving husband, son, father, step-father, Paw Paw, and friend. He had a kind and generous soul and enjoyed helping others. Eddie was an animal lover and fan of NASCAR, the Dallas Cowboys, fishing, golfing, and grilling, but perhaps his greatest love was country music. He was a long-time member of the Moose Lodge. Eddie will forever be remembered for his caring nature and a smile you could see from across the room. He is likely hosting a karaoke gathering to entertain others in Heaven, followed by a round of golf with his father.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 14 at J.T.Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Chester, 3050 W. Hundred Road. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 15 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends and relatives consider making a donation to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
