ROBERT SEWARD GILES, 80, husband of the late Ann Giles Hancock, passed away Friday, October 7, 2005 at Hopewell, VA. Born in Isle of Wight County he was the son of the late Rollie M. and Eva Gumm Joyner Giles. Seward had retired as Assistant Manager of Ivor Supply Co., and formerly worked as Manager of Kea Supply Co. for 37 years. He was an avid country musician and artist whose guitar style was loved by his numerous friends and fellow musicians. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country during World War II, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ivor Masonic Lodge #192, AF/AM, a life member of the Ivor Vol. Rescue Squad and Ivor Vol. Fire Dept., a member of the Historical Society of Virginia, the Archeological Society of Virginia, and a charter member of Burton?s Grove Congregational Christian Church since 1969.
Seward is survived by his loving daughter, Roberta Ann Lindsay of Prince George, VA; his step-son, James Q. Joyner of Sedley; two sisters, Dorothy Elizabeth Lester of Portsmouth and Audrey Eva Chapman of Windsor; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Wyman R. Giles, and his sister, Virginia Owney.
