Robert Hugh Gregory

Robert Hugh Gregory, 75, of Chester, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was lovingly surrounded by family.Mr. Gregory was born to Robert Maxey Gregory and Ella Thomas Gregory and grew up in Hopewell, Virginia. He graduated from Hopewell High School in 1963, and retired from Smurfit-Stone Container after 34 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Bernice Davis Gregory; three children: Mary Gregory, Sarah Gregory Marks (Morton Marks), and Matthew Gregory; and three grandchildren: Austin Marks, Casey Marks Bredl, and Ryan Marks. He is also survived by his sister, Gwen Gregory Vincent (Roger Vincent) and sister-in-law, Judy Porter Gregory. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother, Lewis Warren Gregory.Prior to his illness, Mr. Gregory was an active member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon. He was an avid gardener, harvesting over 25 different types of vegetables and raising numerous varieties of award-winning dahlias. He also loved camping, fishing and bowling.The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 9, 5pm – 7:30pm at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Hopewell. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 10, at 11am at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Bermuda Memorial Park.
