Robert Olin Jackson, 78, of Petersburg, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008 in the Colonial Heights Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was a native of Petersburg, son of the late George Washington Jackson and Ruth Ethel Burnett Jackson. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Colonial Heights. Robert served in the 543rd Medical Clearing Co. while in the U. S. Army, on Pon Gam Island, Korea, after training at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. electrical maintenance shop after some 39 years, and then he served as a Pinkerton Guard at Southside Regional Medical Center. He was a member of the Crater Chapter and the Antique Automobile Club of America. He was an avid history buff and a collector as well. He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Lenora Ann Blankenship Jackson; two sons, George Lynn Jackson (Joann) and Douglas Earl Jackson (Julie); two grandchildren, Robert Noah Lynn Jackson and Heather Ann Jackson; a sister, Joan J. Fox of Chester; two brothers, Nelson E. Jackson of Dinwiddie and Franklin R. â??Buddyâ? Jackson (Ellen) of Richmond; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, and caretakers who were so dedicated, and reflected great comfort and caring during his illness. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, April 18, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, there are so many charities who would appreciate donations at this time. His favorites were the Shriners, the Gideon Bible Society, and the Disabled American Veterans.
