McEwen, Robert Shearer “Robbie”, 54 passed away surrounded by family Oct. 6, 2013. He joins his father, Dr. Philip J. McEwen and mother, Jane C. McEwen whom he deeply missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Molly Elizabeth McEwen, his loving wife, Linda Anne Price, his brothers, Philip McEwen, Jr, wife Karen, James McEwen II and his nieces; Megan, Karen-Anne, Sarah, Jordan and Hannah. He was also very close to many of his cousins and rarely missed a family event.
Robbie graduated from Bollingbrook School and attended Virginia Wesleyan College. He was particularly proud of his service to the Petersburg Rescue Squad during his school years and was recognized for saving the life of a guest at the Norfolk Omni while working a summer job there in June 1979.
Robbie was a licensed Optician and worked for the family Optometry practice in Petersburg where his patients were always made to feel like old friends. Robbie was never more at home than in the fields and on the waters of Eastern Virginia. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and Civil War relic collector. He leaves so many close friends that joined him in these pursuits. He was a long time member of Petersburg Country Club and a lifelong member of the Waverly Youth Hunt Club. He lived for the sound of the dogs, the chase, the brotherhood and the start of every season. Robbie enjoyed gardening, golfing and cooking for friends at his home in Chesterfield. His friends had high praises for his food. Robbie was always willing to help others in need. We will miss his love, humor and generosity.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, October 14th at the Petersburg Chapel J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 15th in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Chesapeake Bay Foundation or the Virginia Historical Society. Condolences may be registered at
