Robert Francis “Bobby” Pecht, Jr., of Colonial Heights, VA, died December 11, 2016, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. Pecht, Sr. and Frances Crawford Pecht, and his beloved grandson, Nicholas Clarke. He is survived by his devoted wife, Daryl Rainey Pecht; four children, Robbie Pecht (Rebecca Akers) and Cindy Pecht (Keith Clarke) of Lawrenceville, VA, Michael Pecht (Vicky) of Richmond, VA, and Brian Pecht (Dr. Julie O’Malley) of Chicago, IL; four stepchildren, Eric Wellington, Ryan Wellington, Carla Jones (Dean), and Anne Vaughan (Warren); 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Randy Rainey (Pat); and his Pecht Distributors, Inc. family. Bobby became a professional musician while attending Hargrave Military Academy playing the piano and trumpet. He was a member of the Virginia Tech Highty-Tighties Cadet Corps Band before transferring to Georgia Tech, and he performed in the Army band in Korea during the Korean Conflict. After completing his military service, he enjoyed a long career as a jazz musician playing with many talented musicians including Boots Randolph and Chet Atkins, and he formed the Bob Pecht Combo. In addition, Bobby was a third-generation Anheuser-Busch beer wholesaler and an owner of Pecht Distributors, Inc. Bobby took great pleasure in attending the Virginia Pork Festival for 43 consecutive years where he loved to serve beer to fellow pork lovers. Bobby was a long-time member of the Lawrenceville Rotary Club, the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce, the Lawrenceville Lions Club, the Virginia Beer Wholesalers Association, the National Beer Wholesalers Association, and Oak Grove United Methodist Church. He served for a number of years on the Board of Trustees of Saint Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, and was a recipient of the UNCF Humanitarian of the Year award. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 15, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home, 6616 Boydton Plank Rd., North Dinwiddie, VA 23803. Services will take place on Friday, December 16, at 11:00 am at the same location. Interment will be private.
