Robert Blackwell Smith II, 63, of Petersburg, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016. He was president of the William R. Smith Company, Owen Printing Company, and The Dietz Press. He was also a former vice president of Smith Advertising Company. Blackwell graduated with the Petersburg High School Class of 1970 after attending Christchurch School in Christchurch, Virginia. He attended Old Dominion University, Richard Bland College, and North Carolina Wesleyan College. He was a past president of the Southside Virginia Emergency Crew, a former chairman of the Appomattox River Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, and an active member of Indian Swamp Fishing Club as well as Neblett’s Mill Pond. He was preceded in death by his son, William Roy Smith II, and his parents, William Roy and Virginia Lee Brown Smith. Blackwell is survived by his wife, Katrina Jordan Smith; his sister, Virginia Lee Smith; his brother, Robert Worthington Nunnally Smith, and his wife, Patricia; nieces and nephews, Susan Smith McKain and husband Scott, Robert Worthington Nunnally Smith, Jr., Anne Carree Smith Murray, Virginia Lee Boykin and husband Mark, and Stuart Blackwell McLauchlan. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15th, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16th, at Blandford Cemetery with the Reverend Rick Greenwood officiating.
