Mr. Robert E Stewart, 74, of Petersburg, died Monday, 14 May 2012, in Colonial Heights Health Care Center, following a period of declining health. He was a native and lifelong resident of Petersburg, and son of the late Robert W. and Ruth A. Stewart. He served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962 with the 1st Missile Battalion (Nike-Hercules), 562nd Artillery, Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, and spent several months enjoying the beauty of Alaska. He was a proud member of the American Legion. He worked at WXEX TV station, filming shows and commercials; a warehouse worker at Titmus Optical and a sales person in the Wal-Mart hardware section from which he retired. He is survived by his cousins, Nancy Heuser, Betty Jo Townsend and husband Charles, all of Colonial Heights; and Carl â??Bearâ? W. Hall, Jr., wife Christine D. Perez and their daughters Natascha and Victoria Hall of Prince George, Virginia, and their adopted son, Rudy Villareal of Chesterfield. â??Uncle Bobbyâ? was an avid Civil War afficionado and antique gun and toy collector. He loved to visit Civil War sites and view historic battlefields with his Cousin Bear. Cousin Bear remembers all the Civil War and Antique shows where Uncle Bobby scrutinized each and every artifact displayed and visited each and every table with sheer delight, which took a long timeâ?¦a very long time and allowed Cousin Bearâ??s indulgence in a short nap onsite, on a bench, around the corner, or safely laid out in his truck, waiting for Uncle Bobby to finish viewing the â??stuffâ?. Among his passions were his fondness for baseball, football, Virginia Gentleman Whiskey and Bettie Page. He loved his three cats, Mimi, Bootsie and Timothy, all of whom enjoyed a long and spoiled life with Uncle Bobby until their journey to cat heaven. Each Christmas, family members enjoyed receiving Uncle Bobbyâ??s obligatory cloth calendar which helped mark the days until his gift the following year...and without which, the passage of time would not have been noted. A graveside funeral service will be at 9 a.m., Saturday, in Blandford Cemetery with Craig Buxton, Chaplain, Crater Community Hospice, officiating. Rest in peace, Uncle Bobby, Fondly, your cherished blood kin.
