Robert Major Wilkinson Sr.

Robert Major Wilkinson, Sr., 87, of Carson, VA, passed away at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, VA on May 11, 2014 following a brief illness. Born on May 3, 1927 at the Wilkinson home place in Sussex, VA, he was the son of the late Percy T. and Irene Perkins Wilkinson. He was a lifetime member of Salem United Methodist Church in Carson, VA and held numerous positions within the church. He was an active member of Carson Ruritan Club for over 50 years and was recently recognized for 50 years of perfect attendance. In 1970, he and his wife, Marie, started R. M. Wilkinson Oil Co., Inc. where he remained active until his death. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marie Royster Wilkinson. He is also survived by his daughters Donna W. Allen (Lee) and Loraine D. Wilkinson and son Robert M. Wilkinson, Jr. (Shirley), four grandchildren - Ashley A. Child (Jeremy), Andrew L. Allen (Tracey), Robert M. Wilkinson, III (Mary) and John Blake Wilkinson, and seven great-grandchildren - Hayley, Mary Grace, Jenna and Ava Wilkinson, Mason and Morgan Child and Wyatt Allen. The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home-Petersburg. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Petersburg chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with Reverend Gene Tatum officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Church Cemetery at 19312 Templeton Road, Carson, VA.
