We are heartbroken to share the news that Roberta "Berta" Parnell, has left us at the age of 76, on March 2, 2024, surrounded by the warmth and affection of her family in Chesterfield, Virginia. Berta, as she was fondly known, was born on December 14, 1947, to Robert and Helen Sturdivant. She completed her education at Thomas Dale High School in 1966. Berta dedicated years as a devoted stay-at-home mother, before working in Chesterfield County Public Schools Central Office as an Administrative Assistant. She retired from CCPS after 32 years of service. Berta was the heart of her family - a loving wife, a doting mother, a cherished grandmother, a dear sister, and a loyal friend. Her courage was unparalleled, and her strength was inspiring. Berta's love for her family was the fabric of her very being. Left to honor her memory are her devoted husband of 40 years, Vernie Parnell; her son, Richard Moore King III (Kim); her daughter, Tracy Longworth (Ernie); her adored grandchildren, Caleb and Holden King, Toby, Tanner, and Abigail Longworth; her sisters, Patricia Maxey and Samantha Kimenhour (John); and nephews, Reid and Tucker Brown.
We will gather to celebrate Berta's remarkable life and legacy at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, where we will remember the incredible woman she was. Friends and family will be received for visitation starting an hour prior to the service, at 10:00 a.m.
Berta's journey on this earth was a testament to the power of love and the strength of family bonds. She will be profoundly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those she touched.
