Rodrigo Ibasitas Malpaya

Rodrigo Ibasitas Malpaya, 81 years old, of Chester, VA, joined his creator last Saturday, September 14, 2024. Born in Pangasinan, Philippines, he was the son of the late Benito and Victoria Malpaya. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Orlando and Antonio.

Rodrigo is survived by his loving wife, Veronica Malpaya; his sister; Lolita; his five brothers, Bonifacio, Jose, Roberto, Dionisio, and Ben; his five children, Roderick (Recy), Richard (Patricia), Vivian (Raymond), Vincent (Klaudia), and Dexter (Zen); his grandchildren, Rondave, Jerome, Shanica, Kedrick, Raphael, Kathleen, Meiko, Patrick, Jonamae, Vien, Mondray, Chelsea, Annabelle, Kassandra, and Madeleine; and four great-grandchildren, Julianna, Stephen, Briella, and Laura.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He devoted many hours volunteering in his church and the community when he was able to serve. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Ann Catholic Church.

Rodrigo worked 27 years as a pattern maker in the U.S. Ship Repair Facility in the Philippines and spent 17 years working as a pattern maker and cabinet maker here in Virginia.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved playing table tennis. Rodrigo also enjoyed watching EWTN Religious programs and basketball games. He read the Holy Bible everyday and was happy to share his faith to friends and relatives and will be missed by them all.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at St. Ann Catholic Church, South Chesterfield, VA, with Father Ernest Bulinda, officiating. Interment will be private.
