Romona Ann Duke Godwin, age 83, known as “Bootsie” to her close friends and family (Ann to recent friends) died September 21, 2014 at Colonial Heights Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 1, 1931 in Petersburg, VA, and was the daughter of Clifford and Emma Duke and the wife of the late William Purcell Godwin Jr. She was a life-long resident of Dinwiddie County but she will be remembered most for her love of her children, family and friends. Romona is survived by her children, Cynthia Godwin Beck (Jack) of Colonial Heights, William Henry Godwin (Cheryl) of Hopewell, VA, four grandchildren: William Sean Godwin, Richard Dale Godwin, Jason Dawson Godwin and Brian Christopher Beck, and three great-grandchildren: Sean Godwin, Kody Beck and Alexis Jones. Also surviving are two sisters Allie Johnson and Lena Duke, sister-in-law Elizabeth Duke and brother-in-law Chuck Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband William Purcell Godwin, Jr., brother Clifford Duke; and three sisters, Thelma Young, Dorothy Van Fossen and Mildred Johnson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25 at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
