Ronald Dayton Laux, age 65, of Colonial Heights, VA, lost his 2 ½ year battle with a brain tumor on March 20, 2012. He was born in Rochester, NY, on Sept 2, 1946. Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Mickey Laux; daughter, Nicole Christopher and husband Joey, and granddaughters, Sierra and Mackenzie, of Chesterfield VA; daughter, Heather Aycock and husband Johnny, and grandsons, Dayton and Corey of Suffolk, VA; brother, Richard Laux and wife, Sarah; sister, Ruth Haeusser and husband Al, all of Rochester; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Ron retired as a LTC from U.S. Army after 21 years of service, serving in Vietnam and Korea. He worked at John Tyler Community College from 1991 to 2007, serving in successive positions as coordinator, director, dean and vice president of workforce development. Ron created the BIGS center which later changed to CCWA, and served on the Board of Directors for the John Tyler Community College Foundation. He was a very active Member of Chester Rotary Club for 22 years. During his service in Rotary he received a citation for meritorious service from the Rotary International Foundation. Ron started his own consulting firm Workforce Success in 2006. He also worked with the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce and Crater Planning District Commission for economic development. Ron was a member of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church. His family will receive friends at the Chesterfield chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, March 22, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. A celebration of Ronâ??s life will follow on Friday, March 23, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church, Colonial Heights, VA. A private entombment of his cremated remains will follow in the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
