Ronald Lee Powers, 54, of Hopewell, died Thursday, October 7, 2004 in Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond. Mr. Powers was a live long resident of Hopewell and a pipe fitter for Honeywell Corporation. Mr. Powers was preceded in death by his father, Hinton Paul Powers, Sr. He is survived by his wife Jewel Gleason Powers, two daughters, Rhonda Powers Jolly and Allison B. Chavis and husband Andy, all of Hopewell, one son, D. Jason Overton of Richmond, VA and three grandchildren, Brady, Jordan and Peyton, his mother Katherine Aultman Powers of Hopewell, two brothers, Paul Powers, Jr. and his wife Dawn of Prince George, VA., William David Powers and his wife Patti of Chester, VA., one sister, Linda Powers Story and her husband Donnie of Prince George, VA and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Powers was a former president of United Steel Workers of America-Local 12103, chairperson for Allied Chemical-United Way of Hopewell, chairperson Vance and Linda Johnson Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament, a member of the American Legion Post 146, and a member of Loyal Order of Moose #1472. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 10, 2004 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Monday, October 11, 2004 at 10:30 AM in the First Baptist Church, corner of 2nd Street and Randolph Road, with the Rev. Dr. John Carpenter, pastor assisted by Dr. Alex Roberts, pastor of Unity Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in Bermuda Memorial Park, Chesterfield County, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Vance and Linda Johnson Scholarship Fund, 301 Redbird Drive, Chester, Virginia 23836.
