Ronald “Ronnie” Lee Walker of Colonial Heights, Virginia, died on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Lee Walker and Gertrude Allen Walker; and his brother, James (Skeegie) Edward Walker. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Pecht Walker; a son, Mark Christopher Walker and his wife, Jenny; four grandsons, Trevor Walker, Logan Walker, Jeremy Walker and Dylan Walker; and two sisters, Marie Wasyk and Linda Slaughter. Ronnie graduated from Petersburg High School (Class of 1957) and Richmond Professional Institute (VCU) in 1972. He was a talented athlete lettering in high school sports and playing on many local baseball teams in the Tri-City area. He played in the Philadelphia Phillies farm club system before being sidelined with injuries. Ronnie retired from the Petersburg School System where he served as a teacher, coach and administrative assistant. He was a former member of the Colonial Heights Jaycees, Colonial Heights Kiwanis Club, Saints and Sinners and a lifetime member of the Littleton Hunt Club. Ronnie doted on his grandsons and was always there for them. They heard many stories of growing up in Battersea, which they probably tired of hearing, but never let on. Ronnie loved fishing and hunting with his close friend, John Guthrie, and was always ready for a good card game. He enjoyed life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by his family. Many thanks to those who have stayed in contact with phone calls, cards and visits during Ronnie’s illness. A special thanks to Larry and Brenda Story, Major and Kyong Blake and Marie Wasyk, who were always available when needed, and the Medi Health Home and Hospice staff. A graveside service will held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 25, 2017. Condolences may be registered at
