Ronnie Burns Simmons

Ronnie Burns Simmons, 77, of Sutherland, VA, departed this life Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Born in Rockingham, NC, he was the son of the late Nathan and Maggie Ruth Burns Simmons. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the Department of Defense. Ronnie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and had many cherished friends all over the world. He was a faithful member of Kenwood United Methodist Church, enjoyed working outside, and loved nature, especially bird watching. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Evans Simmons; daughter, Tracy Irene Ruland and husband, Matthew of Petersburg, VA; son, LTC Jonathan Kurt Simmons and wife, Kimberly of Falls Church, VA; grandchildren, Evan Nathaniel Ruland, Rachel Francine Simmons, and Lillian Ruth Simmons; brother, Ray Simmons of Rockingham, NC; sisters, Paulette Webb also of Rockingham, NC, and Julia Currie of Laurinburg, NC, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at Kenwood United Methodist Church. A memorial service will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by a gathering in the fellowship hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kenwood United Methodist Church, 25200 Ritchie Avenue, North Dinwiddie, VA 23803. Services are under the direction of the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T.
