Roscoe Milton Hiler, 80, of Petersburg, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005. He was the son of the late Myrtle Dellis Hiler Howell and Lenord Roscoe Hiler of Roanoke and the step-son of James William Howell of Gretna. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre Campaign, was retired chief electrician of the electrical department at Allied Chemical, Hopewell, VA, an active member of Second Baptist Church, and Past Master of Powhatan Starke Lodge #124 A.F.&A.M.. Mr. Hiler was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Geraldine ?Jean? C. Hiler and two brothers, James Delmos Hiler and Kenneth Burton Hiler. He is survived by his two loving daughters, Susan H. Butterworth and husband, Mac of Dinwiddie and Joan H. Philipkosky and husband, John of Chester; his grandchildren, Jo Catherine and Brittany McDowell Butterworth of Dinwiddie and Eric Joseph and Leigh Elisabeth Philipkosky of Chester; a sister-in-law, Arlette Shelton Hiler of Lynchburg; a step-sister, Nancy Howell Moore and husband, James of Forest; a step-brother, Franklin D. Howell and wife, Ann of Gretna; a special nephew, Max S. Amos of Christiansburg; and four nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM Friday, July 1, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday, July 2, at Second Baptist Church, Petersburg with Mr. Ronald Dunford and the Rev. Richard Finck. Entombment with Masonic rites will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
