Rose Marie Curling was born January 17, 1927, left her earthly home for Heaven at the age of 96, on March 10, 2023, in Colonial Heights, VA after a long love-filled life.
Born in Cleveland, OH, to Josephine and John Birt. Rose Marie was one of eight children and the first in her family to attend college. She was lured away from college early to work at NACA on early analog computers to help design the X-15. In 1950, she met Navy Petty Officer Fred Curling on a train, and their history began. They married in Cleveland, on November 3, 1951, and began their lives as a military family, raising 6 children and living in 14 homes in Maryland, California, Idaho, Illinois, Virginia, and Florida.
Rose Marie was a faithful Catholic. She was a strong loving wife and mother. She was a meticulous bookkeeper, an average cook, and an especially caring grandmother. Rose Marie and Fred retired to Spring Grove, VA, in 1974, where she was the ultimate hostess of annual pig roasts, extended family gatherings, and several weddings, often with 20+ overnight guests. Her winter home for more than 30 years was Briny Breezes, FL. She enjoyed keeping in touch with family, cruising, British TV, computer mahjong, a 4 pm libation, and holding Fred's hand. She always had a hug and "I love you" to give and will live on in our hearts and memories for eternity.
Rose Marie was welcomed to Heaven by her parents, John and Josephine Birt; sister, Winifred (Miller); and brothers, Skip and Michael. She is survived by her sisters, Kathleen (Bir) and Rita (Moran); and brothers, Vincent and Danny; her husband of 71 years, Fred Curling; her children, John Curling (Lorraine), David Curling, Jessica Heising (John), Carl Curling (Kristen), Marianne Curling (Walter Hall), and Cynthia Carlson (Brian); eleven adored grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and so many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
