November 9, 2018
On the morning of November 9, 2018, Rosemary Reef Walker (age 92) passed peacefully in her sleep at home, surrounded by family, while in hospice care following a devastating stroke.
Rosemary was born on July 16, 1926. An Indiana native and long-time resident of Roanoke, Virginia and Sunset Beach, North Carolina, Rosemary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked as a secretary and was a dedicated church volunteer and a leader in establishing the Chapel on the Green in Sunset Beach, N.C. Renowned for her apple pie and Snickerdoodle cookies, Rosemary blessed this world with her joyful spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. Her mantra was that she would die with either her golf cleats or dancing shoes on. She lived a full life, secure in her faith, and chuckled into her final days.
Rosemary was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Alfred Walker of 51 years, her parents, George William and Josephine May Reef, and her brothers, Merle and Charles Reef.
Rosemary is survived by her daughter, Penny McCulloch, and husband Herbert, son John Michael Walker and wife Pamela, granddaughters Krista Watson and husband Paul, Kara Kowalik and husband Benjamin, and Kelly Amato and husband Joseph, four great-grandchildren John, Miles, Declan, Brynn, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, November 14th at 2:00pm at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 501 Old Town Dr., Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Her ashes will be committed to the columbarium at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in North Myrtle Beach, NC.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in her memory to St. Michael’s or St. Stephen’s.
