Roy Thomas Gleason passed away July 28, 2007 at home, surrounded by his family, after a short illness. He was born on August 23, 1945 to the late Douglas Thomas and Ruby Mae Piercy Gleason. A lifelong resident of Hopewell, he had worked for the past thirty-four years as a manager at Randolph Market. Roy is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Barbara Pittman Gleason; daughters, Kelly G. Stock and husband, Thomas K. Stock of Chesterfield, Aimee L. Gleason and Erin K. Gleason of Hopewell; grandsons, Patrick Thomas Stock and Ryan Kellar Stock; brothers and sisters-in-law, Milton and Marilyn Gleason and Jerry and Kaye Gleason; sister, Jewel G. Powers; father-in-law, Donald Wilkinson; sisters-in-law, Kaye Burgess of South Carolina and Lynn Pittman of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Blanche Wilkinson and brother-in-law, Ronnie Powers. Roy loved life; he was caring, genuine and funny. A gifted singer and guitar player, he was happiest playing music with his brothers and friends. His memory will remain in the hearts of those who were touched by his gentle spirit. He will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday, July 30, at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Alex Roberts, Pastor of Unity Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Bermuda Memorial Park.
