Roy Winston James, 79, long-time resident of Hopewell, died Monday, July 19, 2021. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Jack Sr. and Annie Maiben James; sister, Hazel Thompson Libby; brothers, Ray James, Jack James, Jr., Leland Thompson and their spouses.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joyce, as well as his daughter, Sherri James Bowles (David); son, Stanley T. James; grandchildren, Alexis B. Jayne (Dakota), Emilee Bowles, and Shane Bowles; many cousins from the: Rickman, Gibbs, James, Libby, Thompson, and Seward families; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Pamela Perkins, JoAnne Seward (Lee), Brenda Thompson (Richard), AJ Bouchard, and Jenn Bouchard. He will be missed.
Born in Hopewell, he is notable for being a hometown football star during high school. After two yeas of college, Roy went on to join Daniel Construction as a general foreman. Eventually, he progressed towards being a Civil Engineer for 30+ years with Suitt Construction and Engineers. Roy himself loved birds and bird watching, his dogs, history in any capacity, and his beloved sweetie Joy. His children and grandchildren knew he loved them, and he made it a special point to talk to his daughter daily.
