Lane, Roy F., 95, of Colonial Heights, VA., passed away peacefully at Sitter and Barfoot Veterans Care Center, Tuesday, August 25, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Mr. Lane was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle G. Lipka Lane and children; Linda Lipka Richardson, Frank W. Lipka, Jr., grandchildren; Kristine and Patrick W. Johnson, a sister; Alice L. Garrison, two brothers; Bernard and Lloyd Lane and special companion, Ella James. Roy was the son of the late Herbert and Sarah Grammer Lane. He grew up in the nearby city of Petersburg in the Blandford area. He is survived by his two daughters; Bonnie Lane Sullivan and husband, Carl of Colonial Heights, VA. and Sara Lane DesChamps and husband, Chris DesChamps of Montpelier, VA., eight grandchildren; Stephanie L. Bennett, Melody L. Heide, Pamela L. Harvey, Camden B. Johnson, Blake Lane DesChamps, Frank Lipka, III., Robert Fenimore Lipka and Michael Lipka, a great-grandson; Tristan Bennett, sister; Florence L. Newcomb, and many nieces, nephews and cousins who he loved dearly. Mr. Lane was a proud WWII PFC United States Army Veteran serving his country in the Pacific for three and half years (New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Guadalcanal) where he earned the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Medal, Purple Heart and two Bronze stars and the Good Conduct Medal. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest. He proudly displayed the American flag everyday while in good health. Roy loved to garden and relax on his porch where he could enjoy his flowers and spend time with his family and friends reminiscing about the “good ole days’. He is fondly remembered by many nicknames; Mayor of Blandford, Fuzzy, Whitey and Pop. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2015 at J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home 301 S. Adams St. Petersburg, VA 23803, where a service will be held at 10:00 a.m. He will be interred in a family plot with military honors in Southlawn Memorial Park 1911 Birdsong Road Petersburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Richmond 4600 Cox Road Ste. 130, Glen Allen, VA., 23860.
