Royer H. Hartley
After a battle with Alzheimer's disease, Roy went to his heavenly reward at 7:50 A.M on November 7, 2021. Beloved by his wife of 19 years, Roy spent his last days in Williamsburg, VA after traveling the world in the U.S. Navy. His service took him across the Equator, International Dateline, and Arctic Circle. He retired from NavAir as a chief of fire control after 21 years.
The second part of his life took him to Norfolk Naval Base where he did programming and solved communication problems for over 20 years.
Not satisfied with taking it easy, he worked as a volunteer with Peninsula Agency on Aging, assisting potential workers with resumes and interview skills. He was a member of the Railroad Club of the Peninsula, the Virginia Beach Computer Club, Williamsburg Emergency Response Team, and the Powhatan Crossing HOA Board.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Lorraine; his son, Scott; step-children, Edward Hinds, William Hinds, Laura H. Gentry; and four grandchildren, Austin, Codi, Lilianna, and Annemarie; as well as his beloved cat, Queenie.
He will rest from his travels at the Winfield Family Cemetery in Stony Creek, VA. There will be a graveside service located in Dinwiddie County at the corner of Rt. 40 and Winfield Rd. at 3 P.M. on Friday, November 12, 2021.
