Ruby Lewis Brown Ledford, 81, formerly of Hopewell, VA. entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 15, at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law in Chester, VA. She was the widow of her beloved husband of 46 years, Burkett R. Ledford. She was formerly married to Robert O. Brown, Sr. and later divorced. She was preceded in death by her parents, Troy Ford Lewis and Hattie Brown Lewis; two brothers, Roscoe Lewis and Ernest (Mutt) Lewis, and one sister, Cornelia Lewis. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Brown Hurt (Daryle); her son, Robert O. Brown, Jr. (Nancy), grandson, Robert A. Atwater (Charlotte); granddaughter, Laura B. Jones; and six great-grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew, Brandon, Ashleigh, Robert, and Kyle. Additionally, she is survived by 15 nephews and nieces, Herbert Lewis (Ruby) of Dinwiddie, Nancy Redd (Homer) of Colonial Heights, Bea Mabe of Hopewell, Leonard Lewis (Cecelia) of Colonial Heights, Harold Lewis (Kim) of Prince George, Betty (John) Doucette of Lyndhurst, VA, William (Bill) Lewis (Marilyn) of Petersburg, the Rev. Troy (Clark) Lewis (Linda) of Jacksonville, FL, and Patty Lewis DelesDernier (Steve) of Richmond, Wanda Sue Ledford of Lenoir City, TN; Troy Ledford (Darlene) of Knoxville, TN, Kay Frances Rowland (Calvin) of Prince George; David Ledford (Linda) of Prince George; Carl Ledford (Doris) of Wayneswille, NC, Ruth Ledford Caponigro (Rocco) of Prince George, and a host of cousins. Ruby retired from Allied Chemical (Hopewell), and she and Burkett enjoyed many years fishing at Nags Head, NC. She was a beautiful lady in every way, always so humble and so selfless. Ruby was a member of the Swift Creek Baptist Church, Colonial Heights. The family will receive friends Monday evening, September 18th from 6 to 8 pm in the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Services will be conducted Tuesday, September 19th 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Doctor Steve Felker, Pastor of the Swift Creek Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Flowers are welcome, or the family suggests memorial contributions to the Swift Creek Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
