Ruby E. Ryan of Chesterfield, VA, entered into eternal peace on September 6, 2018. She was born on March 4, 1929 in Cleveland, Georgia to Frank and Hallie Skelton. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Frances and Ruth, her faithful husband of 63 years, Don Ryan, two sons, Mike and Danny, and her daughter, Mary Ann. She is survived by her son, Dennis, her daughter, Kathy and her husband, Rick, her daughter-in-law, Sharon, and her grandchildren, Jennifer, Ryan, Zach and Kim, along with many extended family members. As a military wife, Ruby raised five children while living in many different places all over the world. A loving and devoted mother, she enjoyed spending time with her children and was very involved with their activities. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader. She loved to cook and enjoyed preparing delicious meals for her family. She also loved to sew and quilt, and made many beautiful clothes and quilts for family and friends. Ruby was also a dedicated volunteer and received commendations for her many hours of service as a Red Cross Volunteer Nurse. She was a longtime, faithful member of Washington Street United Methodist Church. She loved attending church there and participating in many activities. She also cooked meals for the Thursday Luncheon for many years. Ruby enjoyed bowling and was a longtime member of The Homemakers Bowling League in Petersburg. She was a longtime member of the YMCA where she enjoyed swimming, yoga, racquet ball and many other fitness activities. She will be remembered always for her loving spirit, kind heart, and her beautiful smile. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 West Hundred Road, Chester, VA 23831. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Alexis Fathbruckner officiating. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, VA.
