Rupert White

Rupert T. White, Jr.(RT), 71, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, April 23, 2012. Born in Savannah, GA, he was the son of the late Rupert T. White, Sr. and Goldie Byrum White. R.T. worked for Dominion Virginia Power where he started in the Transmission Department in 1960 and retired after 34 years as a Local Supervisor for the Sussex, Surry and Southampton County areas. He was fondly known in the community as â??The Lightmanâ?.
He loved cooking for his family and friends, just being at home and spending time with his poodle companion, Missy. He also loved restoring vintage tractors. R.T. was an avid hunter and was a lifetime member of the Shady Grove Hunt Club, a member of the Wakefield Ruritan Club, Beaverdam Sportsman Club and a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church. R.T. will be remembered as a faithful husband and as a loving father and grandfather to his family.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Tanya J. White; his children, Cindy W. Ketcham of Prince George, Donna M. Ross of Colonial Heights, and Charles T. White of Disputanta; stepsons, Dustin N. Harrison of Wakefield, and M. Sean Harrison of Dinwiddie; grandchildren, Dean and Dwayne Ketchum of Colonial Heights, and Taylor N. Harrison of Chester; brother, Ronald H. White and wife, Cindy of Kansas; and nephews, Brian and Brandon White of Kansas.
The family will receive friends at the Wakefield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, April 26, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 1:30 pm at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Rd., Suffolk, VA 23435.
