Russ Allen Barfield, age 60, died October 4th 2018 at his home in Chester, Va. Russ was born at KAH, Ft Lee, Virginia, on 15 May 1958. An Ironworker by trade, he retired from Iron Workers Union Local 28 in 2016 after more than 30 years. He worked many and varied challenging jobs travelling throughout the US but always returned home to Chesterfield.
Russ's reputation for a straight forward attitude and honest hard work was well know and respected. After retirement he enjoyed pursuing varied projects - semi-working when needed to help others, and most importantly travelling the country and living the life he loved – collecting friends wherever he went.
His energy for life and love will be missed by all that called him family or friend. Russ is survived by his loving mother, Dona P. Thompson of Chester; step-father Skip Thompson; three brothers – Danny, Robert (Cindy) and Douglas; three step-brothers; two nieces and one nephew, as well as great nieces and nephews. He is survived by a host of loving friends. He was preceded in death by his father Dan Barfield and a sister, Deborah.
Rusty's last paragraph on an early resume read “Travel anywhere and anytime I am needed – Live for my next assignment wherever it might take me”.
He is now on his next and forever assignment.
Services will be held on Thursday morning, 11 Oct 2018 at 11:00 AM at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home at 3050 W. Hundred Road, Chester, VA.
Visitation for friends and family will be held Wednesday, 10 October 2018 from 6 – 8 PM.
