Russell Wayne "Butch" Davis, 78, went home to be with the Lord, on August 1, 2023. He was born on May 16, 1945, in the Old Petersburg General Hospital on the corner of Madison and Washington Streets Petersburg, Virginia.
Son of the late Robert Lee Davis, Sr. and the late Emma Gertrude Lufsey Davis of Petersburg, Virginia.
Russell lived in Prince George County, Virginia. He was reared on Appomattox Street in Battersea, Petersburg, Virginia.
He worked for the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company from 1965-1985. He was a well known Free Lance Photographer specializing in wedding photography. He photographed over five hundred weddings during the 1970's and 1980's. He received a certificate in Photography from John Tyler Community College.
He was a graduate of the Petersburg High School Class of 1964. A member of the "PHS POGO CLUB" Petersburg Old Geezers Organization and the National Rifle Association. He served in the Virginia Army National Guard 1965 -1971. He also was a collector of vintage postcards, photographs and collectible artifacts from his hometown Petersburg, Virginia. Russell faithfully attended Community Christian Fellowship Church, Colonial Heights, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jennifer Lynn "Jenny" Davis Langston; two brothers, Robert Lee "Shakey" Davis, Jr. and Merle Eugene "Genie" Davis, Sr., Survivors, wife, Jacqueline Wiles "Jackie" Davis; one sister, Ruth Lorraine Davis Harrup; son-in-law, Kenneth "Ray" Langston; step-granddaughter, Marishka Langston Sweeny; nieces, Sandra Hughes, Karla Ramsey, Kelly Davis, and Jody Davis; nephews, Dennis Harrup, Gene Davis, Robbie Davis, Berj Davis, and Josh Davis.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m., on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at J.T. Morriss & Son's Petersburg Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., with a procession to Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George County, Virginia.
