Ruth Powers Gammon Baldwin

Ruth Evelyn Powers Gammon Baldwin, age 79, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, in her Chester, Virginia home, surrounded by her children, family, and close friends.

Born to George Elmore Powers I and Mary Maxine Davis Powers, on March 5, 1945. The temperature was the same as the year, a crisp forty-five degrees, but by the following day it was a sunny seventy-seven. Ruth Evelyn was already bringing warmth to the world.

Ruth was admired and respected by all who knew her. Throughout her life she gave her time, compassion, a listening ear, and a supportive hand to so many. Opening her home to friends and family in a time of need or really any time at all. Always with a bit of wisdom and a well-timed joke to make you forget your worries.

Survived by her four devoted children, Tina L. (Chopp) Hart, Russell O. (Yvette) Gammon, Jr., Alan B. Gammon, and Dana M. Gammon; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Powers (Ryland) Tinnell; as well as, countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that are truly family.

Preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, George Elmore Powers II and Madison "Matt" Powers; her husband of 27 years and father to her children, Russell O. Gammon, Sr.; her loving and committed relationship of 11 years to Danny DeAngelis, until his death; and her husband of 12 years, James "Speedy" Baldwin, until his death.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Park, at 11:00 am.
